Maria specializes in designing exceptional spaces for children. She considers the different way that children relate to and interact with their environments to create architecture that encourages healthy, hands-on learning. Her designs grow out of the client's specific needs, philosophy, and site, usually incorporating natural light and materials. She is known for forming close relationships with clients, and being a positive, motivational part of the planning and building team.
Her other professional strengths include library design, the adaptive reuse of older buildings, and consensus building across user groups. She is committed to a thorough, dynamic process in all of her work. Outside of Holabird & Root, Maria spends her time playing and learning with her own two kids.
