[ Mary Brush : Historic Preservation ]

Mary specializes in the technical elements of building preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration. She begins by conducting a thorough examination of the exterior and interior conditions for clues into the restoration, and for a determination of how the building has aged and its pathologies of deterioration. She believes that each building provides its own lessons in design, construction, and maintenance, all of which must be understood if a building is to reach its first century and beyond.

She is the 2005 laureate of the Richard Morris Hunt Fellowship, a professional honor for which one American architect is chosen every two years to meet and work with restoration architects and professionals throughout France for six months. Projects of note in Chicago include the restoration of the exterior walls of Holabird & Roche's Monroe Building, Louis Sullivan's Gage Building with Holabird & Root, and the exterior walls of Burnham and Root's Rookery Building.

"Mary has an enthusiastic attitude and a high level of concern for the preservation of our historic structures. Her knowledge and expertise in historic preservation is an invaluable asset on all the projects she works on."
