[ Augsburg College : Center for Science, Business, and Religion ]

Augsburg College retained Holabird & Root to design a signature building that will embody and advance its mission and values and position the academic programs to address the complexities students face in the 21st Century. The new, 150,000-s.f. facility will accommodate the College's projected need for state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, research space, and faculty offices to support excellence in the sciences—biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and psychology—as well as business and religion. A linking circle connects the building to adjacent facilities while articulating a gateway to the neighborhood and city. The building is organized around a central atrium on axis with a city street. The atrium, together with the new rotunda space and a dramatic, expanded central quadrangle, reflects the College's central organizing concept of intersections, a physical and intellectual framework for bringing disciplines into dialogue with each other.
