Holabird & Root was hired to perform strategic programming and space needs assessment to address workplace efficiency for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). In addition, Holabird & Root provided guidance and direction in the real estate repositioning and phased implementation as AANS also served as a landlord to another association. All work was performed while fully occupied, which allowed work to continue while the multiple phases were completed.

The final design delivered ‘neighborhoods’ of open office areas grouped by department with acoustic and visual screening to allow for a range of collaborative to private spaces. A central open kitchen and staff dining room doubled as a larger meeting space with a color changing AV wall that brought in association members from around the country to participate with the headquarters’ team.
