Heartland Housing’s Hollywood House Apartments serves the needs of senior citizens in Chicago’s Edgewater community by offering independent and assisted living.

Holabird & Root provided architectural, engineering, and interior design services for the modernization of the 198-unit, 134,000-square-foot building.

The new design for the residential units included kitchen and bathroom upgrades, new flooring, lighting, painting, and window treatments. The existing corridors on the residential floors, first-floor lobby, community spaces, and the outdoor patio space were modernized, as well as the top-floor laundry room, solarium, and roof deck.

The building meets HUD requirements for handicap-accessible housing by renovating 20% of the existing units for the physically and hearing impaired.
