The Evanston Animal Shelter is a purpose-built civic facility designed to advance animal welfare, public health, and community care. Replacing an outdated 1970’s structure, the open-admission, no-kill shelter provides equitable access to adoption, short-term surrender, foster support, and a pet-food pantry, while expanding critical medical, quarantine, and wildlife intake services. Informed by behavioral science, operational rigor, and environmental performance, the design integrates species-specific airflow, acoustic control, daylight, and specialized care spaces to create a secure, compassionate, and resilient environment for animals, staff, and the broader community.
